4 Instant Pot Tips and Tricks

1. Choose Pressure Based On Your Recipe
Instant Pots typically have a high and low pressure setting you can choose from. High pressure is used when you’re cooking something quickly, such as soup or chicken and rice, and low pressure works best for recipes and foods that require a gentler hand, like eggs and fish. High pressure will cook your foods in a shorter amount of time, so if you’re in a rush, it’s usually the way to go!

2. You Can Cook Meals From Frozen
If you’re someone who loves to batch cook meals ahead of time and freeze them, you should know that you can cook foods from frozen in your Instant Pot. No need to thaw them before putting them in, so you can skip a step and get your meal faster. Freeze your meals in round containers so you can easily pop them out and fit them in your Instant Pot. Just note that it will take longer than the regular cook time since it has to thaw and cook the meal at the same time.

3. Use Natural Release When Cooking Meat
There are two options to choose from when your Instant Pot finishes cooking: natural release and quick release. With the quick release option, the pressure will be released right away, but if you choose the natural release option, your food continues to cook until all the heat escapes. This is particularly ideal for cooking meat as it allows the meat to rest and retain all the natural fats and juices. You’ll end up with melt-in-your-mouth meat and it doesn’t get better than that!

4. Don’t Check On Your Food
It’s tempting to check on your food while it’s cooking, and while that’s fine to do that in the oven, it’s a definite no-no for an Instant Pot. The instant Pot lid needs to stay closed in order for your food to cook properly, plus you risk your meal exploding all over your walls and floors if you open it. Be patient. The cook time is never too long with an Instant Pot, so let it do its thing!
